In November 2023, during the COP 28 summit in Dubai, Maksim Mershiev, one of the founders of Avare Biotech, found himself in a profound conversation with a representative from the Emirates Development Bank. As they discussed the future of sustainable development and environmental preservation, the representative shared a startling fact: up to 15% of camels in the desert die each year due to ingesting plastic waste. In some cases more than 6 kg of plastic were founds in stomach of camels.
Maksim, already passionate about biodiversity, was deeply moved. The thought of these majestic creatures suffering from human negligence struck a chord. He shared this story with the team, and they all decided Avare Biotech had to act. This was when the seeds of the "Desert Guardians" initiative were planted.
